A British-Asian businessman who calls himself 'the Sikh Michael O'Leary' will launch a Ryanair-style airline offering cut-price flights to India as soon as July and prices may be as low as £350, and may not exceed £750 for an india flight from UK.
Flypop, founded by former City bond trader Nino Singh Judge, plans to operate long-haul no-frills flights at half the cost of rivals and he has initial plans of offering two direct routes from the UK – to Amritsar & Ahmedabad.
Judge is yet to reveal on operating mode , whether AOP ( air operator Permit ) will be a Leased one, or flights will commence after obtaining a full Air Operator Certificate licence from the CAA -regulator.
'As soon as restrictions are lifted, there is an opportunity to go,' says Judge. 'Right now my cash burn is so minimal I can time my launch exactly when the demand is there and when I can fill my planes.'
He has raised £7million plus of funding from private Punjabi & Gujarati investors, plus £5million from the Treasury's Future Fund.
Earlier, Judge had said budget long-haul is 'a tough market to crack', but he can succeed with an aggressive approach by offering low fares.
Martyn Lewis, Senior VP of Marketing for Avolon in the EMEA region says,
“We look forward to working with flypop on its exciting imminent launch of flights between the UK and India. At launch, flypop will commence operations with one aircraft and plans to add an extra aircraft every six months. It’s not every day we help launch a new British long-haul scheduled carrier!”
It will be interesting to see, how Flypop attracts passengers to india, when travel industry and aviation world is still reeling under Covid-19 Pandemic .
