Yes, its coming Sooner than you thought ! A personal Flying bike , of course not that of Green Goblin's , but yes feel can be the same , but with 33 Rotors , bit bulky , powered by a 13.5 kWh battery .
The product 'Mk5 personal eVTOL' belongs to the tokyo based 'Tetra Aviation', the same team that won the 'Pratt & Whitney Disruptor Award' in Feb-2020 , where Some 854 teams comprising 3800-plus innovators from 103 countries took up the GoFly challenge to craft personal flyers as a first step towards transforming the future of transportation with flying cars, flying motorcycles, hoverboards, jetpacks, human-carrying drones and other personal flyers.
“After much anticipation, we are thrilled to announce that teTra Aviation is the winner of the 'Pratt & Whitney Disruptor Award',” said GoFly Founder and CEO Gwen Lighter. “The team displayed the technical design and creative prowess that we set out to inspire when we created the GoFly Prize. teTra created a unique personal flyer and we look forward to supporting them as they take the next steps towards revolutionizing human mobility.” was the testimony of Gwen Lighter, GoFly Founder and CEO.
With a single joystick and semiautomatic fly-by-wire electrical controls to fly the eVTOL , Its Fuselage frame is dominated by aluminum alloy, and the bodydesign is a lightweight carbon fiber reinforced plastic (GFRP) with some aramid fibers (AFRP) in there too.
Talking about propulsion, the Mk5 is a 'lightweight single seat vertical lift and cruise style aircraft' using 32 vertical lift rotors distributed across long, thin wings at the forward and rear of a small cabin, with a single pusher prop on the rear for cruise flight.
The flying prototype , which was displayed at EAA AirVenture oshkosh 2021 this year, boasts with dimensions of 8.62m width, 6.15 m length and 2.51 m height. With a 13.5-kWh battery pack, it weighs 488 kg empty and has a maximum takeoff weight (MTOW) of 567 kg , so it can carry a pilot with 79-kg weight.
This is just the Prototype, the production design can carry a payload of 91-Kg at cruise speeds up to 160 km/h (100 mph) , which will be a promising feature for this personal eVTOL, that is expected to be released by 2022 .
Tetra is planning to manufacture and sell the units as home-built experimental kit aircrafts , which means you'll be able to fly the eVTOL on a private pilot's license in the US or anywhere legally allowed . If you wish to have one , the Mk-5 is available for a pre-order at the company’s website link here.
