In an attempt to normalize the Aviation domain in the country, Syria is trying to recover the air routes between regional hubs in its first phase.
One such attempt is normalization of the route to a major hub in the middle east, as Syrian Airlines officially announced the resumption of direct flights between Syria and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), starting next Sunday, to both Dubai and Sharjah as an exceptional first phase.
Syria's flag carrier posted on its official Facebook page that four weekly flights will currently be operated between Damascus and Dubai, on Saturdays, Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, with the intention of increasing them to seven flights per week soon.
The Syrian Civil Aviation Authority recently released a promotional video for Damascus International Airport as part of Syria's attempt to persuade international airlines, including those from Europe and the US, to return to the country after the fall of Assad Regime.
Flights to Sharjah will also be operated on Sundays, Tuesdays and Fridays, with work to increase their frequency to a daily flight, as for the Damascus-Abu Dhabi flights, they will be on Tuesdays and Fridays.
Recently, the aviation regulator of United Arab Emirates, General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), has announced the resumption of air flights between the United Arab Emirates and the Syrian Arab Republic.
The GCAA said in a press release today that joint coordination is currently underway to complete the necessary procedures for restarting flights between the two countries, in a manner that enhances air traffic and supports passenger and cargo movement between them.
Syrian Airlines confirmed that it was doing its utmost to expand its flight network as soon as possible, once it obtains the necessary approvals from the relevant authorities to expand the number of flights, calling on travelers to contact its offices inside and outside Syria for more information.
It's to be noted that the suspension of flights between Syria and the UAE took place in January, following the overthrow of Bashar al-Assad's regime.
This revival coincided with the Syrian president's recent visit to the Arab country, where he met with his Emirati counterpart, Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, as part of an effort to strengthen international cooperation.
Also, during the Fourth International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Global Implementation Support conference 2025, in the UAE capital, Abu Dhabi, representatives of the Syrian General Authority of Civil Aviation held a series of important meetings with a number of senior officials of (ICAO) Organization.
During those meetings, it was agreed to hold an additional session soon to sign the management services agreement between the Syrian Civil Aviation Authority and the ICAO, which aims to enhance technical cooperation and develop institutional performance.
The meeting discussed the subject of frozen Syrian civil aviation funds abroad, with a focus on ways to benefit from these funds in developing infrastructure, supporting training and qualification programmes, and updating technical systems, in line with the requirements and standards of the (ICAO).
