Relief ! After Lufthansa ground workers , Condor employees reached at a Collective Bargaining Agreement through United Services Union - ver.di !

A day Before , the United Services Union (ver.di) and Lufthansa had agreed on a collective bargaining agreement for around 20,000 ground service workers at Lufthansa AG Ground , Lufthansa Technik, Lufthansa Systems, Lufthansa Technik Logistik Services (LTLS), Lufthansa Cargo and Lufthansa Service, among others Gesellschaft (LSG) and LEOS (Lufthansa Engineering and Operational Services GmbH).

And today (August 5, 2022) , the same Union (ver.di) was able to reach a collective bargaining agreement for the approximately 3,000 employees of Condor Flugdienst GmbH nationwide in the cabin and on the ground.

The Condor agreement includes an inflation-related salary increase for both employee groups from January 1, 2023 to December 31, 2024 of at least 7 percent and up to 9 percent with a corresponding increase in the consumer price index in 2023.

"This result is important for the employees and could be achieved in the peace obligation and outside of the collective bargaining round with a good financial improvement for the employees," emphasizes Dennis Dacke, deputy ver.di negotiator.

Whereas , due to the Lufthansa group - ver.di collective bargaining agreement , employees will receive increases in their salaries in three steps :

  • First, they will receive a fixed amount of EUR 200 per month retrospectively from July 1, 2022, and from January 1, 2023, a further 2.5 percent, but at least EUR 125 per month another 2.5 percent from July 1, 2023.
  • Trainees will receive a fixed monthly fee of 180 euros from July 1, 2022. The term of the collective agreement is 18 months and ends on December 31, 2023.

"This is a good result, which means a monthly increase of at least 377 euros up to 498 euros across all employee groups," emphasizes the deputy ver.di chairwoman and negotiator Christine Behle.

For a check-in employee, for example, the increase means a percentage increase of between 13.6 and 18.4 percent, depending on the length of service.

“The result includes inflation compensation and an additional real wage increase. It was important to us to achieve this real balance in order to protect the employees in this economically difficult situation. That succeeded. This result, which makes Lufthansa more attractive as an employer, can also relieve the burden.”

For Condor , another collective agreement deals with compensation payments for cabin employees who voluntarily take on additional services in the period from August 1, 2022 to October 31, 2022 in order to maintain the ship management . Depending on the individual total remuneration, they receive several hundred euros per day of use.

“It is important that the highly stressed employees receive financial compensation for their voluntary commitment to additional services. At the same time, everyone who is at the stress limit must be protected," says Dacke and at the same time appeals to the responsibility of the Condor management to respect and minimize the stress situation.

Lufthansa Employees in the lower salary groups will benefit from an additional increase to at least 13 euros per hour from October 1, 2022, at a clear distance from the statutory minimum wage, on which the two additional increases will then take place in 2023.

While the deal has averted further strike action by the airline's ground staff , a potential strike by Lufthansa's pilots could still be on the cards .
