MSC Air Cargo celebrates its newest aircraft at Milan Malpensa airport, the first Boeing 777-200 aircraft to be registered in Italy in over 30 years.

Geneva based MSC Air Cargo marked a milestone welcoming its latest freighter at an event at Milan Malpensa airport, attended by MSC Group CEO Soren Toft, MSC Air Cargo CEO Jannie Davel, and other international partners and clients.

The event highlighted the introduction of the first aircraft to be registered in Italy in over 30 years, which again is a testament to MSC Air Cargo’s commitment to growth and innovation within the freighter industry.

The freighter will be operated by MSC-owned AlisCargo Airlines. AlisCargo received its AOC in July 2021 and had been operating preighters during the pandemic, but its operating licence was suspended last year by the Italian civil aviation authority, prior to its acquisition by MSC.

MSC took a majority stake acquisition in AlisCargo Airlines last August and subsequently invested in 100% of the carrier this year. MSC Air Cargo launched operations in December 2022 and adopted Liège Airport as its European hub.

The latest event not only celebrated MSC Air Cargo’s expansion but also underscored the company’s dedication to its partners and clients.

Jannie Davel, CEO of MSC Air Cargo said: “This celebration is a reflection of our progress and the power of our partnerships.

“We are grateful for the trust and support of our customers, and we look forward to reaching even greater heights together.”

"This celebration is a reflection of our progress and the strength of our partnerships,"  said Jannie Davel .

In addition to the formal proceedings, attendees were treated to captivating performances by Italian artists, including a special showcase by the gymnasts of the Italian Gymnastics Association, celebrating Italy’s rich cultural and artistic heritage.

This landmark event reaffirmed MSC Air Cargo’s commitment to excellence, partnership, and delivering cutting-edge logistics solutions as the company continues to strengthen its global network.

The new aircraft symbolizes not just a technical achievement but a shared journey toward the future of air cargo, built on collaboration and commitment.

In October 2022, MSC Air Cargo started with just five people and it was yet to take delivery of the first of the four B777 freighters that would eventually be operated by Atlas Air.

Two years later in October 2024, MSC Air Cargo boasts of a team of 70 plus people and a robust network of four B777 freighters operated by Atlas Air and a fifth B777F operated under its own Air Operator's Certificate (AOC), based in Milan, Italy.

In another development, MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) has promoted Jannie Davel to be the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of MSC Air Cargo with immediate effect. Davel’s promotion comes as the cargo airline completes two years this month.
