Is Former British Airways Chief Alex Cruz joining Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) ?

Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) seeks one for the Top job and the former British Airways Chief  Alex Cruz  is among the shortlisted, to become CEO of the flag carrier of Denmark.

 

 

Alex Cruz - the Aviator !

 

► 1990 -1995  - Alex Cruz (1966 born) started his Aviation career with American Airlines, working for them in London (for five years starting 1990).

 

►  1995 to 2000 - Cruz  shifted to Sabre Corporation - a technological division of  American Airlines.

 

►  2006 - Cruz became the founding CEO of  Clickair, which became part of Vueling in July 2009.

 

►  2015 November -  Cruz was hired by the IAG group CEO as the next CEO and chairman of British Airways, to begin in April 2016. Cruz succeeded Keith Williams.

 

►  2016 - Cruz outsourced the company's computer systems to TCS, india and made 700 British Airways employees redundant.

 

►  2020 April -  During the pandemic battered aviation industry's survival measures, he set out plans to make up to 12,000 of them redundant, drawing cirticism from Unite the Union.

 

►  12 October 2020 - IAG announced that Aer Lingus CEO Sean Doyle will replace Alex Cruz as next CEO of British Airways.

 

 

 

 

Once it was confirmed that current CEO Gustafson will join industrial group SKF, SAS started the search for a new CEO, early this year.

Mr Cruz is among a very few potential replacements identified by SAS to succeed  Rickard Gustafson, however the status of discussions between SAS and Cruz is yet to be revealed.

The airline, which is a joint venture of  the Swedish and Danish governments, reported a loss of more than $1bn in the year 2020, as air travel saw it's historical Lows.
